About Us

HistoryThe old Dumbleton village shop closed in 2005. The loss was keenly felt. So a group of villagers came together and with the aim of creating in its place a new, exciting kind of shop. After a period of fund raising, in May 2006 the shop was re-opened by Esther Rantzen, who has long campaigned for better rights for consumers.
OwnershipThe shop is operated by the Dumbleton FineFood company, whose Directors include three of the four couples who were the founding investors. One of the Directors chairs the company. The fourth couple owns the premises. Some 20 or so small investors in the village supported the company by putting up funds to get the new shop started.
Management and staffThe company is run day to day by Directors Dave and Christine Roscoe. They are often working in the shop. But the person you are most likely to meet is our full time shop manager Enrika, who is supported by part time staff, Jackie, Isabella and Homa.
PhilosophyWe believe in selling quality local food, and providing a friendly place to shop or drink a cup of coffee or enjoy a light lunch. We want to make our contribution to cutting carbon emissions and supporting the local economy. Most of all we want to serve our customers, whether local or from further afield, and make them feel they want to come again.
